/Mini Society Week of 9/29

Dear Parents,

We’ve had an exciting few weeks in our Mini Society, and I wanted to share some updates with you about all that has been happening!

Our students have officially named their city The Lost City of New Hope. After thoughtful discussion, they also voted on their form of government. They chose a democracy, which means they will elect a president. The president will not have extra powers but will instead guide decision-making by holding votes, with the majority ruling on each issue. This ensures that every voice in society matters.

We also began the process of creating our Constitution. To start, students brainstormed possible rules and discussed what values they wanted their society to reflect. After some deep conversations, they selected the following guiding values: Honesty, Respect, Compassion, Safety, and Fairness. These values will shape their laws and decision-making as we continue to develop their society.

Next week, the class will listen to the United States Preamble and then review several sample preambles. Together, they’ll decide on the wording they like best for their own constitution, which will begin with:“We the people of The Lost City of New Hope…”

This week was an important turning point. The students moved beyond surface-level ideas and began engaging in meaningful discussions about what kind of community they want to create. It has been wonderful to watch them think deeply, share ideas, and collaborate in ways that reflect real-world citizenship.

Thank you for supporting their learning journey—I can’t wait to see how their society continues to grow!
